Week Three: The Table Within The Meal
Lent invites us to slow down, reflect, and pay closer attention to the presence of God in the ordinary moments of our lives. Through our Church Without Walls Lenten Study, we explore how faith is not only expressed in worship services, but in the simple rhythms of daily living and in the ways we care for one another.
This week we reflect on the story of the road to Emmaus in Luke 24, where two disciples finally recognize the risen Christ at the table as bread is blessed and broken. For the earliest Christians, shared meals were at the heart of community life. They gathered in homes, brought simple food to share, prayed together, and learned how to live out the teachings of Jesus in practical ways.
Even today, the table remains a powerful place of connection. When we slow down enough to share food, listen to one another, and welcome others into our lives, something sacred can happen. In these simple moments, community is formed and the ordinary becomes holy.
