Read Matthew 21:23-32 with your family.
Jesus tells a story about a father who asks his two sons to go and work in the vineyard. The first son says, “No, I won’t!” But later he changes his mind and goes to work. The second son says, “Yes, I’ll go!” – but he never does.
Jesus asks a simple question: Which son actually did what his father asked? The answer is the first one. He didn’t give the best answer at the beginning, but he thought about it, changed his mind, and then did what was right.
Sometimes we get things wrong at first. We might say no, make a poor choice, or decide we don’t want to do something we should. Jesus’ story reminds us that we aren’t stuck with our first answer. We can think again, change our minds, and make a different choice.
And saying the right thing isn’t enough all by itself. Saying “yes” or promising to help sounds good, but what we actually do matters. God isn’t looking for people who always have the perfect answer. God wants people who are willing to listen, change, and then live what they say they believe.
