Proper 6

Proper 6? What a strange name for the Sunday.

The green weeks after Pentecost are called “Proper”. We will count them up to week 28 this year, before we get ready to start Advent and our new Christian Year with the first purple block at the top.

During the Proper weeks, we spend time getting to know Jesus better, understanding what he taught us to do, and remembering our responsibility as Christians.

Our Story this week

Jesus tells the twelve what he expects of them

What does Jesus expect of believers?

The lesson this week is a long one (Matthew 9:35 – 10:23). Read it together with your family and watch the video above.

Jesus gives his disciples instructions on how to go into the world and talk to others about God’s love. He tells them don’t pack extra clothing or shoes, just trust that all your needs will be provided by the people who are willing to listen.

If you were one of the disciples, where do you think you would go first? Who would you talk to about God? What would you dress like to show others that you are serious about this job?

Draw and colour what you would look like if you were one of the disciples.

Where do you want to meet Jesus?

Jesus and his followers went into people’s homes, their places of business, met them at wells, by the water, in the fields… all over. They went where the people were.

In your imagination, picture the place where you feel most comfortable talking with Jesus. Is it at home? Out in the field? By water?

Use your building toys or art supplies and make a model or picture of you meeting Jesus.
