Third Sunday in Easter

In our liturgical year we are on the third Sunday in Easter – the white block. Easter is not just one day, it is a whole season with seven Sundays.

Our Story this week

Road to Emmaus

Activity

When Christians talk about Jesus “walking” with us, we don’t mean it literally like when Jesus actually walked with the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Most times we mean it as Jesus is with us throughout our day and we can talk to Jesus any time we want.

Other times when we talk about Jesus walking with people, we mean that Jesus is there to make people feel better when they are having a hard time.

Look at the news and try to see all the places Jesus “walks” with people. Are they hurt? Are they sad? Are they scared? How is Jesus there to make it better?

Some ideas: Jesus won’t put on a bandaid, but the doctors and medics show the love of Jesus when they put on the bandaid or provide medicine. Jesus won’t investigate a crime, but the police and RCMP show the love Jesus had for all people when they investigate to try to find answers for people who don’t understand how bad things happened.

What are some other ideas?

Make a craft

This week instead of a paper craft we are going to make a food craft.

Many cultures around the world eat flat bread. In India it is called chapatti, in Mexico it is called tortilla, for the Indigenous of Canada it is called bannock.

In one bowl mix: 3 cups flour, 3 tbsp baking powder, 1 1/2 cups water, 1/4 cups oil. Mix until dough is a ball and slightly sticky. Don’t over mix or it will become hard to eat.

Put it on a baking sheet and shape it into an oval. Bake for 30 minutes at 400F.

When your bread is cool enough to eat, think about how Jesus wanted us to ‘break bread’ with each other. Share your bread with your family.
