Trinity Sunday

Opening Prayer

Prayer written by Hildegarde of Bingen

The words God speaks are the life and sustenance of all that exists.

The life Jesus gives is the re-creation and renewed birth of all that is broken and worn.

The Spirit’s stirring in our souls is the inspiration for creativity, compassion, joy, and community.

Life-giving, life-restoring, life-fulfilling God; may our whole lives be worship. In all things, may we seek to connect with You and to reflect Your love and Your hope.

The four parts of the Trinity.

You can make you own Trinity pyramid, template is found on Kids Korner. Also a fuller discussion on the Trinity can be found on the Bible Study page.

Confession & Words of Assurance

Holy and triune God,

You alone live in perfect relationship,
One God in three persons,
Mutual and loving,
Ever seeking reconciliation and unity.

You have called us to live in Your completion, yet
We confess that our relationships are imperfect and
We are incomplete without You.
We are selfish and greedy.
We are anxious and resenting.
We feel the shame of our foolish behavior and brokenness.
We have allowed sin to drive us apart from one another
And from You.

Forgive us and restore us,
Draw us close and bind us together in Your mercy.
May we long for wholeness and peace,
May we strive toward gratitude and grace
In the saving name of Your son, Jesus Christ,
By the working power of your Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Inspire us to make change in our world, to listen to your expectations for a time of peace and justice, and help us be assured that your forgiveness for our shortcomings is already there, offered before we even ask.

Scripture

What Jesus’ Followers Must Do

Matthew 28:16 Jesus’ eleven disciples went to a mountain in Galilee, where Jesus had told them to meet him. 17 They saw him and worshiped him, but some of them doubted.

18 Jesus came to them and said:

I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! 19 Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 20 and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.

Prayers of the People

(Please add your prayers aloud and in the comment in section below)

Almighty God known as wisdom before the dawn of creation, Lord Jesus Christ – perfect love made flesh, Holy Spirit of God – ever present, together wrapped up in perfect Trinity, we meditate upon the great and gracious plan which You have brought to pass, that women and men like us should look beyond creation to worship You the Creator of all things.

We pray for the unrest that has rocked our world and led to so much additional destruction south of our border. We pray for those struggling for justice long denied. We pray for the children, partners and parents of those who have died because of racial bigotry. We pray for all racialized people of the world who demand equality. We pray for the allies walking with the vulnerable, being shields, supporters, medics and friends. We see you alive in all of these actions and thank you, Christ, for showing us how your people should treat each other.

We recognize that racial prejudice and bigotry exist in all places. We pray specifically for Chantel Moore and Regis Korchinski-Paquet and those who loved them. Help their families find the answers they need to find some closure, and help us make these some of the last of our siblings to die based only on the colour of their skin, their gender, their ethnicity, their sexual orientation or their identity.

Gathering all these prayers into one, we offer the prayer tradition has taught us:

Our Father, who art in heave, hallowed be Thy name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Benediction & Commission

As you stay in your space

May the holy wisdom of God
Guard your ways and guide your paths.
May the living truth of God
Enlighten your hearts and open your minds.
And may the living Spirit of God
Give you life, and life to the full! Amen.
