1st Sunday in Lent
Lent is the long purple section. It is 40 days + 6 Sundays before Easter. It is a time to think about our choices and how we want to do better. It is also a time of prayer and giving.
Making the right choice or the wrong choice, that is what The Tempter/Temptation is all about. Even Jesus spent time struggling against temptation before he started his ministry. (Mark 1:12-13)
If you watch any movie or TV show, ‘Satan’ is always a bad guy and the good guys have to get rid of him. But that isn’t what the Bible says.
In Hebrew ‘ha-satan‘ (pronounced ha-SAY-tonne) means the tempter or the challenger, the tester. The one who stands in Jesus’ way and gives Jesus an out. This temptation also stands in our way and encourages us to make the easy choices when we know they are not the right choices.
