The Apostle’s Creed (not written by the apostles) has a line that says “He descended into hell”. This has confused modern readers who associate hell with endless torment, fire, evil stuff, and so forth. None of that was part of the earliest centuries of the church.

Most churches now say “he descended to the dead”, which is much more in keeping with the intents of the original writing.
