6th Sunday in Lent – Palm Sunday
Lent is the long purple section. It is 40 days + 6 Sundays before Easter. It is a time to think about our choices and how we want to do better. It is also a time of prayer and giving.
Everything Jesus did was political. Religion and faith should drive our politics of equity and openness, like Jesus taught.
Read Mark 11:1-11. Read it twice, it’s short. Everything about this passage is political.
Mount of Olives: place where the battle for the end times begins (Zechariah 14:4)
Colt: the saviour will come riding a colt (Zechariah 9:9)
Cloaks on the ground: how victorious kings were welcomed (2 Kings 9:13)
Hosanna: means “Lord, save us” and comes from the story of how the Hebrews kicked the Greeks out of Jerusalem (This is the lead up to the story of Hanukkah)
