Teen Time: Separating the institutional church from faith in Jesus (June 27th)

The long green season is called ‘Proper’ or ‘Even time’, or sometimes the “Weeks after Pentecost”. This is how we spend half our year. During Even Time we listen to the stories of Jesus that are not part of Christmas and Easter: Parables, Jesus’ healing folks, Jesus’ teaching about God’s world and Jesus showing us how to treat each other.

It is absolutely okay to criticize the church and church leaders, and still believe in Jesus and want to follow his teachings.

How do we say we are Christians when the Christian church has done some horrible things? It might help to remember that the Jesus and the earliest Christians were living the Gospel promise for close to 400 years before the institutional church as we recognize it today, became established.

Just for fun
