Read Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43 with your family.
Have you ever planted seeds in a garden? At first, all the little green shoots look almost the same. Imagine if someone told you to pull out all the weeds right away. What if you accidentally pulled up a carrot or a sunflower instead? Once it’s gone, you can’t put it back!
In today’s story, Jesus tells about a farmer whose field has both wheat and weeds growing together. The workers want to pull the weeds out right away, but the farmer tells them to wait. He knows that if they rush, they might pull up the good wheat too. Sometimes being patient is wiser than acting too quickly.
People can be a bit like that field. We don’t always know the whole story about someone. A person who seems grumpy today might be worried about a sick grandparent. Someone who makes a bad choice today might learn, grow, and become a wonderful friend tomorrow. Jesus reminds us that it isn’t our job to decide who belongs and who doesn’t. Our job is to keep growing into the kind of people God wants us to be.
This week, when you’re tempted to decide what someone is like after one mistake or one bad day, stop and take a breath. Choose kindness instead. God is still at work in every one of us, and sometimes the most important thing we can do is give people the chance to grow.
