The Barefoot Evangelist

Read Matthew 14:13-21 with your family.

When Jesus heard some sad news, he went away to a quiet place to rest. But the crowds followed him because they wanted to hear him teach and to be healed. Even though Jesus was tired and grieving, he welcomed the people and cared for them all day long.

As evening came, the disciples worried because there was not enough food. All they could find were five loaves of bread and two fish. It did not seem like nearly enough for such a huge crowd. But Jesus took the food, thanked God for it, and shared it with everyone.

Something amazing happened. Everyone had enough to eat, and there were even twelve baskets of leftovers! Jesus showed his friends that when people share what they have, even small gifts can become something wonderful.

Sometimes we look at our own gifts – a kind word, a helping hand, or a small snack – and think, “That isn’t enough.” Jesus reminds us that when we share with others, God can do amazing things with even the smallest offering.
